This nationally recognised unit provides the skills and knowledge required to responsibly sell, serve, and supply alcohol while meeting the requirements of NSW liquor licensing legislation. The course covers key topics such as checking identification, recognising signs of intoxication, refusing service when required, understanding standard drinks, and applying harm minimisation strategies to create a safe and enjoyable environment for patrons.

This course covers:

  • Legal requirements of the sale and service of alcohol.
  • Harm minimisation and duty of care.
  • Anticipating problems and managing patrons.
  • Assess and monitor the levels of intoxication of patrons.
  • Advise patrons on standard drinks and the effects of alcohol.

Who Should Enrol?

This course is suitable for anyone seeking employment or currently working in an environment where alcohol is sold, served, or supplied. Whether you are entering the hospitality industry for the first time or need to update your qualifications, RSA training provides the foundation you need to work responsibly and professionally.

NSW Requirements

In NSW, it is a requirement that anyone working within a licensed alcohol-serving venue holds a Liquor & Gaming NSW approved RSA Competency Card. All students from December 1st 2025, are required to complete the new SHARPR training module that covers ‘Sexual Harassment and Sexual Assault – Recognise, Prevent and Respond’ training module and all students completing renewing or completing the refresher course will also be required to complete this module.

Students register with iTFE and they will also receive an email with the login details to the RSA – LCV Learning Hub and are required to create an account to complete the new SHARPR training module.

Entry Requirements

This course is delivered and assessed in English. Applicants are required to complete a short LLN assessment at the time of enrolment and must have or obtained a USI.

Outcome

Learners who successfully complete the course will be issued with a Statement of Attainment for SITHFAB021 Provide responsible service of alcohol.
