We have a range of funding options available through various state funding programs.

Victoria – Skills First

Skills First subsidised study makes vocational education and training more accessible to people who need skills to get a job or to undertake further education.

ITFE is approved to deliver training through Skills First Program.

Training may be supported by Skills First Program, delivered with Victorian and Commonwealth Government funding.

Eligibility:

  • be an Australian citizen; OR b) a holder of a permanent visa; OR c) a New Zealand citizen.
  • not be enrolled in more than two Skills First subsidised qualifications at one time.
  • commence a maximum of two Skills First subsidised programs that are AQF qualifications in a calendar year.
  • be physically present in Victoria or in a designated border region while participating in training and assessment.

New South Wales – Smart and Skilled

This includes the fee-free traineeship initiative where new entrant trainees may be eligible for fee-free training that supports their apprenticeship or traineeship.

  • be an Australian citizen; OR b) a holder of a permanent visa; OR c) a New Zealand citizen; OR d) a holder of a humanitarian visa.
  • aged 15 years or older, and
  • Live or work in New South Wales, and
  • No longer at school

ACT- Skilled ACT

The ACT Government provides subsidized training through the Australian Apprenticeships (User Choice) training initiative for eligible apprentices and trainees.

Eligibility

  • be an Australian citizen; OR b) a holder of a permanent visa; OR c) a New Zealand citizen; OR d) an eligible visa holder.
  • work in the ACT for an ACT employer.
  • receive remuneration for your work, and
  • complete a minimum of 15 hours combined work and training per week, and
  • undertake an approved Australian Apprenticeships qualification with an approved registered training organisation, as listed on the ACT Qualifications Register, and
  • have the required supervision in the workplace for an Australian Apprentice

TAS -Apprentice and Trainee Training Fund

ITFE is approved to deliver training through Skills Tasmania – Apprentice and Trainee Training fund.

Eligibility

  • Australian citizen or who holds a current Australian permanent resident visa; or
  • is lawfully permitted to work and study in Australia and who is also:
    • a New Zealand citizen with a Special Category Visa;
    • the holder of a valid temporary humanitarian visa;
    • the holder of a Tasmanian State Sponsored skilled migrant visa;
    • a dependent (aged over 18 years of age) or partner (spouse) visa holder of a person who satisfies the requirements for an eligible learner.
  • learners must be an apprentice or a trainee with a registered training contract in Tasmania
  • can be new or existing workers
  • school aged learners or previously qualified apprentices and trainees.

Queensland- User Choice

As a Skills Assure Supplier, ITFE is funded to provide training and assessment under the Queensland Government, Department of Trade, Employment and Training (DTET) User Choice Policy. The User Choice program supports the delivery of accredited entry-level training to apprentices and trainees by contributing towards the cost of training.

Eligibility

  • be an Australian citizen; OR b) a holder of a permanent visa; OR c) a New Zealand citizen; OR d) a holder of a humanitarian visa OR e) temporary resident with the necessary visa and work permits on the pathway to permanent residency.
  • be employed in an approved apprenticeship or traineeship in Queensland
  • have entered a training contract for a qualification funded by the government
  • have selected a government-approved training provider


Apprentices and trainees can only receive one government contribution for a User Choice funded qualification at any single point in time, i.e. a student is not funded to undertake two apprenticeships or traineeships at the same time

What fees will I expect to pay?

As part of your apprenticeship, you are required to pay a student contribution fee unless you fall within one of the exemption categories.  The student contribution fees under User Choice are set by DETET at $1.60 per nominal hour for each unit of competency.

The fees may be paid by the student, employer or a third party.

South Australia- Skills SA

The South Australia Government provides subsidised training under the Skills SA program. Training is subsidised where there is a demand for jobs in related industries. The Government contributes towards the cost of training which means eligible students will pay less for their training.

Eligibility

  • be an Australian citizen; OR b) a holder of a permanent visa; OR c) a New Zealand citizen; OR d) hold a state sponsored visa on a pathway to permanent residency.
  • live or work in South Australia
  • at least 16 years of age,
