Barista Essentials Pathway to Employment

This Pre-Employment program provides comprehensive insights about becoming a barista, including essential information on career prospects in the hospitality industry, nationally recognised competency units, and the essential skills and knowledge employers are looking for. It is a 5-day course and is open to anyone with the required written and spoken English skills. Upon successful completion, students will receive a Statement of Attainment for all accredited training.

Barista Essentials Pathway to Employment training program supports participants to gain entry-level employment or a traineeship in the the hospitality and café sector.

About the course

Start your journey into the hospitality industry by building the practical skills and confidence needed to work as a barista. This program introduces participants to café environments and customer service, while providing accredited training in bean selection and coffee preparation, advising customers and product monitor quality. You’ll gain hands-on experience, learn about hospitality career pathways and be supported to secure flexible, entry‑level roles or progress into further study in the sector.

Unique Student Identifier (USI)

It is mandatory for all students undertaking Nationally Recognised Training in Australia to have a  Unique Student Identifier (USI). Students will need their USI  to apply to enrol for training. Visit www.usi.gov.au  for more information.

Entry requirements

There are no formal entry requirements for this course, however students are expected to have or be able to achieve written and spoken English skills to the certificate level of the course, or the ability to develop these skills whilst in training to meet the requirements of the qualification. To allow our trainers to support your learning, students will need to complete a student profile, including language, literacy and numeracy indicators before their enrolment application is accepted.
