NSW Licensee Training
Are you a Licensee, Approved Manager or Club secretaries and need Licensee Training?
This training course is a mandatory requirement for all owners and management staff involved in the serving of liquor in NSW which extends to Pubs, Clubs, Bars, Hotels, Bottle Shops, Restaurants and Cafes.
The Licensee and Advanced Licensee training courses have been developed to provide greater support and to ensure you are better prepared for the challenges of operating a licensed business.
Licensee training is for most licensees, approved managers and club secretaries. It covers a range of topics designed to support you to:
- understand the relevant liquor legislation and regulations that will impact you as a licensee
- know your responsibilities in managing your NSW liquor licence
- understand your responsibilities as a licensee to manage alcohol related harms in your business
- implement best practice strategies for your business to improve operations
- understand the consequences of non-compliance and what that means for you as a licensee
On completion of this course you should be able to manage the day to day requirements for a compliant licensed venue to the benefit of your staff, customers and the wider community.
The courses is mandatory for:
- Licensees and approved managers granted a new liquor licence or transfer of existing licence to another person or premises from 1 September 2018
- Existing licensees and approved managers from 1 April 2019, aligned to the renewal of your existing NSW competency card.

Pre-requisites
Before you complete this training, you will need to hold a valid NSW competency card or interim certificate issued by a Liquor & Gaming NSW for Licensee training, and Responsible service of Alcohol (RSA).
If your current competency card also includes RCG you will need to either undertake the Responsible Conduct of Gambling (RCG) refresher training prior to doing the Licensee Training or complete a RCG Declaration Form to remove RCG endorsement from your competency card.

Course outcomes
An interim certificate will be issued to students to acknowledge successful completion.
Students will then need to visit Service NSW with their Interim Cerificate and Identification to update their Competency Card.
A new Competency Card will be mailed to the applied address and is valid for five years.
Successful completion of this course automatically updates student’s NSW RSA for a further five years

Introduction
Session 1: Overview of liquor regulation in NSW
Session 2: Managing your liquor licence
Session 3: Your responsibilities to manage alcohol related harms
Session 4: Best practice strategies to prevent alcohol related harms
Session 5: Compliance and enforcement
Finalise assessments and next steps
Course is run over 7 consecutive hours and the maximum number of participants per class is 20. Licensee training consists of a range of activities, in class discussion and participation and at the end of your course you will be required to complete a short theory assessment comprised of short written answers and multiple choice.
Requirements
Participants are required to bring proof of identification documents, such as a passport or driver’s licence on the day of training.
