Hamish completed his Certificate III in Commercial Cookery with our hospitality training department late last year. He started working in hospitality as a kitchen hand during high school before deciding to taking on a Certificate III in Commercial Cookery and becoming a chef.
"I couldn't stand the thought of working in an office. I need to always be moving and hospitality is perfect for that."
Since graduating, Hamish has assumed the role of Sous Chef at a bistro near where he lives. His position requires him to oversee apprentices and other chefs in the kitchen. He also collaberates with the head chef on menu planning and often attends cooking competitions.
"I've realised that I'm a born leader and becoming a chef has given me the opportunity to teach others in my field."
Alex completed a Certificate II in Hospitality course with our hospitality training department in 2014. She's the first in her family to start a rewarding career in the hospitality sector and is keen to make a name for herself in this fast-paced industry.

During Alex's hospitality course she worked closely with our training team to develop a career network between local hospitality businesses and our students.
Alex wants to become an advocate for the industry and support students in highschool to find their way into this promising industry.

Rob has always been interested in cooking and the hospitality industry, however, as a highschool student was unable to find a job that did not require a qualification. After a one day Food Safety Handler course, he was able to gain a position working as a cook at an up-market restaurant.
"All I had to do was a one day course where I learnt a lot about food and that also gave me a gateway into the hospitality industry."
Rob aims to work his way up in the hospitality sector. He thought the FSH course helped him to understand a lot about dealing with food in a safe manner and was a great course that helped his employability.
After entering the hospitality industry with her own business in providing ready-made meals for companies big and small, Sheila completed her Food Safety Supervisor course with us. In an effort to expand her company, she knew it was the right choice for her to be able to make informed decisions regarding food safety and wanted to ensure her staff were doing the same.
"I take pride in quality food, and the Food Safety Supervisor course gives me the tools to ensure I am creating this."
Sheila's growing business is now able to provide food that has been handled according to the recommendations, delivering the quality products in a safe manner.
Stewart was working as a waiter at a restaurant before he completed his Responsible Service of Alcohol course, but decided it would be worthwhile so he could serve alcohol to his patrons. He now able to serve the customers himself, rather than having to refer them on to another staff member and it has greatly improved his employability.
"The course was great and they made it fun to learn, even in regards to tough scenarios involving alcohol."
Stewart now enjoys providing alcohol to his patrons and understands how to keep it at a safe level.
Gill had been working in a café for about a year when she chose to further develop her coffee skills with our Barista Coffee Art (Level two) course. The course gave her the tools to become a full blown barista, including latte art, workplace efficiency and more.
"I love creating coffee art and putting a smile on the customer's faces when I make them the perfect coffee."
Gill now has many regular customers who, along with her employer, enjoy her ability to create fantastic coffee at a high turnover rate.
Neil wanted to start a part-time job as a waiter in his local café so he undertook our Barista Basics (Level one) course. This course gave Neil simple coffee skills and an understanding of coffee that allows him to help out with making coffee as well as performing his usual duties.
"The course was a fun way to learn coffee basics and gave me the skills necessary for my new job as a waiter."
Neil enjoys making coffee and helping out when the café gets especially busy. He hopes to complete the Barista Coffee Art (Level two) in the near future once he has developed his coffee making skills with experience.
Taylor loves being in the midst of nightlife in the city and decided a job serving drinks at a night club would suit her lifestyle. After completing her RSA with us, Taylor came back to complete her Bar Operations course to learn how to pour and serve drinks.
"Now I know how to pour drinks to please the patrons and serve it to them in a safe manner."
Taylor enjoys serving alcoholic beverages to her customers in a fast-paced environment. She aims to complete our Cocktail Preparation and Service course soon so that she can be the master of the bar.
Max was looking for a part time job with flexible hours whilst completing a hospitality course. He completed a Cocktail Preparation and Service course with us to become qualified whilst searching for a job at a club.
"I loved how much fun the course was and how hands-on it was."
Our Cocktail Preparation and Service course gives many of our students including Max, a headstart and an edge over other candidates when applying for a job in this sector. People who complete this course find it interesting and enjoyable and they learn how to properly mix exciting beverages.
